Introducing Fashionable Fridays!

Introducing a new writing segment to Style & Vibes. Every Friday I will cover a designer, fashion line or anything related to fashionable style. If you would like me to cover your designs please contact me. First of many series is a the Pink Locket owner, Kamilah Campbell.

A self described multi-dimensional woman, Kamilah Campbell recently entered into the world of accessories, particularly jewelry making with her line The Pink Locket.  Her handmade pieces have distinct personalities and artistic names like “Bronzing Gal” “Got Me Beaded” and “Fancy Dancy”. This Jamaican born corporate marketing specialist has a clear vision of taking her hobby to the masses.

Why the name Pink Locket?

I feel like all women have a pink side. Usually pink is associated as soft or feminine, but a pink personality could represent spontaneity, assertiveness or excitement. I wanted a name that reflected women, but tie in jewelry. I want people to associate the name with women’s jewelry.

How did you get into jewelry making?

I started creating it for my personal wear. But my aunt creates jewelry too, and she would host jewelry parties and I’d help her with those designing a few pieces, so decided to do it for myself.

What is the inspiration behind your pieces, and how does your Caribbean background play into your designs?

I like to use different beads, artesian beads, pieces that have a lot of color, objects from foreign countries. I’d say a lot of pieces have vibrant colors that reflect our personality.

How does your line different from others?

I don’t restrict myself in terms of mediums that I use. I’ll use jean, chain, fabric, leather, sterling silver with 14k gold wire I definitely use quality products. I don’t want my designs to be generic or look like knock off of other jewelry that’s why I use different mediums. I create pieces with a particular personality in mind.

What colors/trends are into now?

I’m really into the tribal trends for the new line being released early June I use neutrals, blues like teal, turquoise and even some yellow. I like to create pieces with a touch of trend as I’d like the pieces to be wearable years from now.

What does the future hold for Pink Locket?

We’re going to be releasing a line of clutches, wallets, handbags expanding to a complete accessories line for the winter collection.

Three undercover New York City Police detectives were acquitted of all charges in the 50-shot killing of an unarmed man on his wedding day.

Justice Arthur Cooperman delivered the verdict Friday morning after explaining how he came to the decision.

Michael Oliver, Gescard Isnora and Marc Cooper were cleared in the 2006 killing outside of a strip club.

Two of the officers could have faced up to 25 years in prison. The third was charged only with reckless endangerment and would have faced much less prison time.

The Bell family minister asked for calm in the city and asked people to respect the verdict.

Diddy’s urban fashion line Sean John, makes LICENSE magazine’s list as one of the top licensors. Coming in at a lukewarm #54, still says a lot about the company as it is the only urban fashion line to make the list. You may not like him, but you will respect him!

Kat Deluna is set to perform her latest hit “Run the Show” at Bloomingdales on 59th street. (Cosmetic section on the 1st Floor) Bloomies is hosting “Beauty Benefits” through Sunday where you can get tips from celebrity make-up artist in person and create a simple beauty look for the summer.

Lastly, one of my favorite mags, FADER did an online write up featuring the ladies of Dem Gal Sitt’n Riddim, produced by Ward 21. Click HERE to read and listen. Also, check out the latest issue it has a write of Brooklyn’s own Ricky Blaze.

Lock Him Up for Lying!

Thanks to Miss Cocoa Luv (Check her out on WBMB  every thursday 7-9pm) The Smoking Gun broke the story that Akon has reportedly lying about his time in prison. The “Konvicted Felon” is more like fraud, a fossy, a B****CLAT IDIOT! Here’s an exerpt:

“Akon’s ad nauseum claims about his criminal career and resulting prison time have been, to an overwhelming extent, exaggerated, embellished, or wholly fabricated, an investigation by The Smoking Gun has revealed. Police, court, and corrections records reveal that the entertainer has created a fictionalized backstory that serves as the narrative anchor for his recorded tales of isolation, violence, woe, and regret. Akon has overdubbed his biography with the kind of grit and menace that he apparently believes music consumers desire from their hip-hop stars.

While the performer’s rap sheet does include a half-dozen arrests, Akon has only been convicted of one felony, for gun possession. That 1998 New Jersey case ended with a guilty plea, for which the singer was sentenced to three years probation. Another 1998 bust, this one in suburban Atlanta, has been seized upon by Akon and transformed into the big case that purportedly sent him to prison (thanks to his snitching cohorts) for three fight-filled years. In reality, Akon was arrested for possession of a single stolen BMW and held in the DeKalb County jail for several months before prosecutors dropped all charges against him.

So there was no conviction. There was no prison term between 1999 and 2002. And he was never “facing 75 years,” as the singer claimed in one videotaped interview.”
